Pinewood Derby 2014

Today was the cub scout pinewood derby for Logan's pack.  Logan had a great time last year and so when Sister Hanson handed out the kits for cars last month, Logan put a lot of though into what design he wanted to do.  One night at dinner, Logan said, "I want do build a TRON car."  So I hopped on the computer and looked at a few pictures of the TRON light cycle and drafted up a couple of designs for Logan to choose from.  Next, we took it to the the wood shop on post to have it cut out.  Logan sanded down all of the rough spots and then it was ready for paint.  We put a few coats of black and then we got some masking tape and masked off some cool lines to make it look like it was from TRON.  Logan wanted to use blue paint but we couldn't find any so we ended up going with silver which turned out pretty good.
Here Logan is registering at the race.  We used a dremel tool to hollow out some space in the bottom of the car to add weight.  We used 500 won coins to get as close as we could to the limit.  At registration we added another 100 won coin to make weight.  Next we put some graphite on the axles and then waited for the races to start.

This year the pack from the northern branch joined us.
There were a lot of cool designs.  One scout made a minecraft zombie that turned out really cool.  Another kid left his car as a block.  There was a really cool batmobile too.

While the timers were being calibrated, the scouts took turns telling jokes.
After a few heats, it was Logan's turn to see how his car was going to do.
3rd place... but Logan was a great sport about it.  We are proud of how much he has grown in a year.
Sadie watched from the sidelines and cheered on her big brother.

I got some Sadie love too.

One of the heats, Logan's car came in first place.  Logan was so happy!  I don't think that his car came in first at all last year.
 Here is the photo finish.
Logan's time improved a bit over last year's Mario car.
Logan, Luca, and Logan are fun to watch.  Logan is truly blessed to have such good friends.  They all gave each other complements after each race, and cheered when Logan Barney's car made it to the quarter finals.
After the races were done, there were refreshments.
Then the boys held their own race on the floor of the cafeteria.  Fun times, Logan sure is enjoying cub scouts!

Super Sadie turns 3

On March 9 2011, our lives changed again forever with the arrival of Sadie Brighton Cottrell.  She is our Korean baby, outside of her two trips to America (1 month each), she has spent her whole life in Seoul.  She is our blue eyed blonde haired Superman fanatic.  She is full of energy and laughs, smiles and fun.  She is independent, strong willed, and a bit stubborn at times but we can't imagine life without her.
Here are all of her gifts with some custom artwork from her favorite friends, Logan and Addy.
Addy and Sadie under a rainbow.
Logan's rendition of a classic scene from Superman I, in which Superman stands perpendicularly on a building to stop a robber who is scaling the walls.  We showed this movie to Sadie and the other kids about a month ago and now it is more popular in our house than Frozen (thank goodness!)
So everything for her 3rd birthday had to be Super Sadie themed.
Sadie, like the other two kids (dad too), loves to play with Lego.  We found a couple of really fun duplo sets for making ice cream cones and other foodstuffs.
 Cheese!
Now it is official, she has the super suit, and the cape with her "S" on it... Here she is... SUPER SADIE!
 She loves her Super Mommy.
Just checkin to make sure that the cape works.
Sadie with her mini figures... I never knew how hard it would be to buy a normal superman toy.  There was super ultra battle armor lava grip gun shooting superman (who as far as I know never appeared in any comic books, movies etc.) and a Lego minifigure Superman, but the real deal will have to wait on Amazon to deliver...
Next up... The cake.  Each of the kids gets to request a theme for their cake, Amber bakes the cake and I frost the design.  Sadie had a very specific cake in mind... you guessed it, Superman.
So we decided to do a Superman shield with a little bit of Sadie flair.
 Here is the final product.
 Cheese!
 Double cheese!
A rarely given and highly coveted Sadie kiss.
We sang the birthday song and Sadie blew out her candle.
 Yummy cake... thanks mom!
After all of this excitement, Super Sadie was super tired.  Happy Birthday Sadie, We love you more than you will ever know.  Just don't grow up too fast.

Logan plays hoops

Logan finished up his second season of Basket ball on Yongsan.  I can't believe that it is already over.  Even though the time seems to have flown by, Logan learned so much and showed a lot of improvement over his performance last season.
As is the case every game, Logan's fan club came along to cheer him on.
Addy with her retro Punky Brewster/pioneer maid outfit...
Logan is the one of the youngest but also the tallest on his team.  This comes in handy as he battles for rebounds.
All of Logan's games were held in the gym at the elementary school on post.
Basketball has been a great outlet for Logan to get out all of his pent up energy, when he really runs he is super fast!
Logan usually plays two quarters and for the last two games of the season he really stepped up his game and aggressively went after the ball.  This game Logan had a few good attempts at a basket (one teetered on the rim for a couple of seconds) but nothing went in.  In his second to last game he went "coast to coast" for an excellent basket.
Here he is lining up for a shot.
After two quarters of non-stop action, Logan started to wear out.
On the sidelines, Sadie was giving mom a lot of loves.
During halftime, Logan never missed a shot.
Back in the action, the other team double teamed Logan every time he got the ball.  Logan found a teammate and assisted several shots.
Near the end of his second quarter he pulled a muscle in his shoulder and dramatically played on till the buzzer sounded.
With the season over, the team went out for pizza and medals.
Logan is building quite the collection of medals.  We are so proud of him trying his best, learning new things and having fun.
 Pizza well deserved buddy!
Here is a shot of the team.  Great season Hoyas!
